Getting to Know the Front Office Ladies

Video Transcript

Hi Chargers, I’m Anna Clear Dykoski with the Pin Oak Press. Today, we’re putting a spotlight on the front office ladies—a team that plays a critical role in the daily operations of our school. While their work often happens behind the scenes, their efforts directly impact students, staff, and visitors. Let’s take a closer look at what they do and how they support our school community.

Mrs. Ward:
Hi, my name is Mrs. Ward, and I am the Student Information Representative for Pin Oak Middle School.

A typical day for me starts with arriving at school—I’m usually the first employee here. When I come in, I open the school, which means getting the front office systems up and running so that employees can begin their day.

As the Student Information Representative, my job involves registering every student who attends Pin Oak. We are not an open-enrollment school; we are a transfer school. Once you apply to Pin Oak, I process your application and enter you into the system, which we manage through PowerSchool (also known as SIS or HISD Connect). At the beginning of each school year, I enroll between 1,200 and 1,300 students.

Alicia Escamilla:
Good morning, my name is Alicia Escamilla, and I work in the Pin Oak Middle School front office.

A typical day in our role begins with greeting and signing in visitors using the Raptor system. Visitors may be here for parent meetings, meetings with administrators, or as volunteers helping out around the school. We also answer phone calls and assist parents with their questions throughout the day.

In addition, we help students who come in needing assistance—whether it’s providing temporary IDs, issuing late passes, or directing them where they need to go.

Miss Churchill:
I’m Miss Churchill, and I am the Attendance Clerk here at Pin Oak Middle School.

As the Attendance Clerk, I am responsible for adjusting student attendance records. If a student is absent and their parent provides a note, I ensure the absence is excused and enter the appropriate code in the system.

I also handle student records requests. If a student is applying to a private high school and needs their records, they come to me, and I send the necessary documents.

Thank you to the front office ladies for sharing their work with us. Their contributions are a big part of what keeps our school running smoothly.

That’s all for today, Chargers! Stay tuned for more Pin Oak Press. See you next time—bye!
