Lauren: Hey Chargers, welcome back to POMS Weekly News. I’m Lauren, and I hope you’ve been having a great day. Let’s jump right in.

Lorelei: The PE classes have been relocated to the Multi-Purpose Room, commonly known as the MPR, for several weeks due to the gym renovation. The gym has been under construction since December and is expected to reopen in late January. The renovation faced multiple delays because of complications with the paint application and temperature conditions within the gym. The temperature changes from the AC unit, the increasingly cold temperatures over the past weeks, and lack of humidity caused the fresh paint to bubble, leading the workers to redo parts of the renovation.

“We had a delay with the temperature not being regulated properly,” explained a worker. “Because the floor was sanded down to raw wood, it started absorbing moisture. With the temperature not being stable, the floor expanded and contracted, which caused issues. We had to pause and let the school district regulate the conditions before continuing. Now, we’re getting it done.”

The gym updates include sanding down the existing floor, applying an oil-based finish, and adding a new logo along with “Charger Pride” lettering on the border. “When teams come to play here, they’ll be greeted with Charger Pride!”

Lauren: Tuesday and Wednesday saw temperatures as low as 19 degrees, and it snowed on Tuesday, resulting in no school on both days. Today’s high is 54°F, with a low of 42°F. Looking ahead, the highs for the rest of the week will be in the mid-60s, with lows in the 50s.

Lorelei: The girls’ basketball team participated in the San Jacinto Tournament on January 10th and 11th. The 7th-grade team placed 6th, with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. The 8th-grade team did not place, winning 1 of four games.
