Pin Oak Dancers Light Up the Winter Showcase

Video Transcript

Hello, and welcome back to Pin Oak Press. My name is Amelia Leachman, and today our top story is about the yearly Winter Showcase. The Winter Showcase is a dance recital choreographed by our dance teachers, Miss Cordero and Mr. Leal, here at Pin Oak Middle School. The showcase features performances from Cheer, Company, Dance, and Hip-Hop. Each class performs different styles of dance, from Cheer’s high-energy routines to Hip-Hop’s street dance style. Let’s get to the news!

Interviewer: Hi, my name is Maya Brito Schmitz, and I’m here today with Kourtlyn Kyle.

Interviewer: What is your day-to-day warmup to prepare for the showcase?
Kourtlyn: Our day-to-day warmup includes stretching and doing jumps. Sometimes we even do something called the alphabet warmup, where there are different letters of the alphabet assigned to different exercises, like planks or running.

Interviewer: What’s it like being a cheerleader and a dancer on Company, especially with the change of location?
Kourtlyn: It’s very stressful and hard, but it’s also a good opportunity to learn new things. With the change of locations, you learn how to quickly adjust and catch up. It helps you manage stress, and overall, it’s okay.

Interviewer: What is the hardest dance in this showcase?
Kourtlyn: The hardest dance in this showcase is probably our “Ring Around the Rosie” dance. It’s contemporary and includes a lot of different technical skills.

Interviewer: I’m here with Quinn Cernosek.

Interviewer: How many different styles of dance were showcased in your performance?
Quinn: It’s mainly Cheer with sharp motions. There aren’t really a lot of different styles.

Interviewer: Which dance was the hardest to choreograph, and why?
Quinn: I think “Disturbia” was the hardest because we had to choreograph it in just two days.

Interviewer: Who choreographed this dance?
Quinn: Me, Maddie Bell, and a little bit of Cammy.

This concludes the 2024 Winter Showcase. Thank you to Kourtlyn Kyle and Quinn Cernosek for letting us interview them. Go Chargers!
