Game On: Pin Oak Lacrosse Season Starts

Video Transcript

Hey Chargers, and welcome to the Pin Oak Press, a student-led journalism program at Pin Oak Middle School, HISD’s premier foreign language magnet school. I’m Ava Atherton, and today we’re featuring the Pin Oak girls’ lacrosse team as they gear up for their first tournament on December 6th.

This tournament is double elimination, meaning the team will play at least two games, and if they win, they’ll play more. While the official season doesn’t start until spring, the team has two upcoming tournaments to prepare for the travel tournament in San Antonio from January 10th to January 12th, and the annual Burning Flower Tournament on December 6th.

The team has been practicing hard twice a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays, to get ready for a strong season. Today, we have Anna Clair Diosi, a seventh-grade midfielder, to give us an inside look.

Anna Claire Dykoski: Hi Chargers! My name is Anna Claire Dykoski. I play midfield because I get to experience both offense and defense. The biggest challenge is getting tired since it’s just constant running back and forth.

Before every game, the whole team stretches and does a chant to hype ourselves up. The most challenging team we’ll face this year is probably HTX because they’ve all been playing lacrosse for a long time and are really skilled.

Thank you, Anna Claire, for your time and thoughts on the upcoming season. Now, let’s hear from Lila Byrd about her experience as a defensive player.

Lila Byrd: Hi, my name is Lila Byrd. I play defense because I like stopping the ball and making good checks.

I collaborate with my goalie and midfielders by talking to them and yelling out who I’m defending to keep everyone on the same page.

As we wrap up this report on the Pin Oak girls’ lacrosse team, it’s clear the players are ready and excited for their season to begin. Thanks for joining us for this feature story about the Lady Chargers lacrosse team.

Thank you, and see you next time!
