It’s time to add a festive touch to teachers’ and administrators’ doors with decorations like Christmas trees, snowmen, stars, and more. Pin Oak’s annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest kicks off Nov. 18 and runs through Dec. 11, as teachers and administrators transform their doors into works of art.
For some, it’s all about having fun, but others are in it to win. Last year’s champion, Mrs. Woodard, shared what inspires her to put so much time and effort into the contest.
“What motivates me to go out for the decorating contest is the fact that I love to compete, and I love to be spontaneous,” Woodard said. “Then just see whatever I have envisioned in my mind make it come to life.”
Her passion for competition and love for the holiday season fuel her drive to participate. “I love the holiday season, and it just brings me so much joy and cheer,” Woodard said. Students eagerly help decorate classroom doors with their teachers.
Juliette Rees, a seventh grader who participated last year, enjoys the teamwork involved.
“I just wanted to help my teachers win the door decorating contest, and I also thought it would be really fun,” Rees said.
Though her teacher didn’t win, Juliette enjoyed decorating for both the competition and the fun of it. Despite the challenges, she was determined to help.
“I think one of the most challenging parts of the project for me was trying to get the Christmas characters to look like they do on TV when we were cutting it out on paper,” Rees said.
The Holiday Door Decorating Contest is not just a competition among teachers; it brings teachers, students, and the community together. “It makes me so grateful that we are at a school that does things like this,” Woodard said. “Some schools don’t celebrate the holiday season, but just giving that particular impact makes me so grateful and warm and fuzzy inside. Go Chargers!”
The contest has four categories: Most Original & Creative, Best Execution of Theme, Most Holiday Spirit, and Most School Spirit. Judging begins today, and winners will be announced soon. Good luck to all participants, and may the best doors win.
